Southeast
of Dubrovnik, just a breath away, like a guardian angel, lies
Lokrum island. Its beauty unshaded by the magnificent city.
The rivalry of The City and Lokrum lasts for centuries as they
compete in their undying dance of harmony only to break even
as they are a perfect match.
Also
known as the island of kings, Lokrum has its first writing mention
in 1023 as the Benedictine abbey and monastery are founded.
According
to legend, Richard the Lion-heart shipwrecked in 1192 after
returning home from the crusades and found himself cast ashore,
safe on Lokrum, and he pledged to build a church on the island
indebted for the salvation but at the plea of Dubrovnik citizens,
the church was not built on Lokrum but in the city instead.
There
a few locations you should visit on Lokrum
::
Walking through pathways you can easily reach the old Benedictine
monastery preserved and partly restored into the Maximilian of
Habsburg palace in 1859. It now serves as a restaurant and cafe
bar - a pleasant place for a lunch or a cool drink.
::
Another path on Lokrum leads to a small lake,
called Mrtvo More (Dead Sea), a unique lake linked with the sea,
crystal clear and calm. It’s the perfect place for a refreshing
swim on a hot summer day.
::
Fort Royale, a star shaped fortress was built by the French in
1806 at the highest elevated point of Lokrum. It is a bit of a
steep walk, but after half an hour you’ll be rewarded with a marvellous,
exquisite view of the whole island and the city of Dubrovnik.
From
The City harbour regular tourist boats run to Lokrum, in spring
and autumn every hour and during the summer
every half an hour so it's very convenient to visit this fantastic
island. It takes only 10 minutes to get to Lokrum
Wedding
ceremony options on Lokrum
The
palm garden or the enclosed garden are the best options for a
wedding ceremony. You can decide which one suits you best after
viewing them. You can take this decision even a few days before
the wedding. There is no indoor back up option in case of bad
weather on the island. We will always prepare a back up option
for your planned Lokrum wedding, but this will take place in Dubrovnik.
Wedding
dinner options on Lokrum Island or in Dubrovnik
ù
You
can have your wedding dinner on the island Lokrum, which would
take place at the garden restaurant of the Monastery.
Another option would be to have the wedding dinner in Dubrovnik
or one of the close by villages. A few locations are
:: dinner at a palace within the city walls of Dubrovnik
:: dinner at a roof terrace of a hotel within the city walls of
Dubrovnik
:: dinner under the palms overlooking the sea and Dubrovnik town
:: dinner at a VIP beach club
:: dinner at the a private beach
:: dinner in a typical Dalmatian restaurant at the sea
